Learning, Teaching, and Skill Development at Vigyan Ashram
1 June 2026 – 6 June 2026
Introduction
The week from 1st June to 6th June 2026 was full of learning, practical work, and teaching experiences in the Asmita Department at Vigyan Ashram. During this week, I improved my fashion designing skills, learned new garment-making techniques, guided other students in paper cutting, and explored bag cutting methods. This week helped me become more confident not only as a learner but also as someone who can share knowledge with others.
1 June 2026 – Weekly Meeting and Learning Activities
The week began with a classroom session after breakfast. The topic of the day was “Teeth,” where we learned about dental health and the importance of maintaining proper oral hygiene.
Later, a meeting was conducted for DBRT students. During the meeting, students shared the projects and activities they had completed during the previous week. Listening to the experiences of students from different departments helped me understand how practical learning is taking place across the Ashram.
After the meeting, I continued my studies and fashion designing work. The day helped me reflect on my progress and set goals for the coming week.
Teaching Other Students Paper Cutting
One of the most meaningful experiences of this week was helping and teaching other students in the department.
Since I had already learned how to take measurements and prepare blouse paper patterns, I started guiding other girls who were new to the process. I explained how measurements are taken and how those measurements are transferred onto paper to create accurate patterns.
I demonstrated:
- How to mark measurements correctly
- How to draw pattern lines
- How to extend pattern measurements
- How to prepare paper cutting layouts
- How to avoid common mistakes
Teaching others was a completely new experience for me. It made me realize that understanding a skill deeply allows us to explain it more clearly to others. It also improved my communication and leadership skills.
Seeing other students understand the process and gain confidence through my guidance was very satisfying.
Learning Interlock Blouse Construction
During this week, Tai introduced us to a new concept in garment construction—making an interlock blouse.
Tai carefully explained every step involved in creating the blouse. She demonstrated how proper measurements, cutting accuracy, and stitching techniques contribute to a well-finished garment.
While learning the process, I understood:
- The structure of an interlock blouse
- Proper cutting techniques
- Stitching sequence
- Finishing methods
- Importance of accuracy in garment construction
Tai’s guidance helped me understand the practical aspects of blouse making in greater detail. Every step required patience, concentration, and precision.
This learning experience increased my confidence and strengthened my understanding of garment construction techniques.
Learning Bag Cutting Techniques
Another exciting activity during the week was learning how to cut bags.
This was different from blouse cutting and introduced me to a new area of fashion and product design. Tai explained how bag pieces are measured and cut before they are stitched together.
While learning bag cutting, I understood:
- Basic bag dimensions
- Pattern preparation
- Fabric layout
- Cutting techniques
- Material utilization
I found this activity very interesting because it showed me that fashion design is not limited to clothing. Skills such as measurement, pattern making, and cutting can also be applied to creating useful accessories like bags.
Learning bag cutting expanded my knowledge and introduced me to another creative aspect of design.
Daily Practice and Skill Improvement
Throughout the week, I continued practicing the skills I had learned earlier, including:
- Sewing machine operation
- Pattern drafting
- Blouse cutting
- Stitching techniques
- Fashion designing concepts
- Spoken English practice
- NIFT entrance preparation
Every day helped me improve my speed, accuracy, and confidence. Through regular practice, I became more comfortable handling different tasks independently.
The practical learning environment at Vigyan Ashram encourages students to learn by doing, and this week clearly demonstrated how continuous practice leads to improvement.
