Single-Phase and Three-Phase Wiring

-
- Single-Phase Wiring
- Uses one Phase (L) and one Neutral (N).
- Commonly used for lights, fans, and small appliances.
- Three-Phase Wiring
- Uses three phases: R, Y, and B.
- Commonly used for motors and heavy electrical loads.
- Phase Voltage
- Voltage between Phase and Neutral.
- Typical value: around 230 V.
- Line Voltage
- Voltage between two phases.
- Typical three-phase value: around 400–415 V.
- Motor Voltage
- The motor should be connected according to its nameplate/rated voltage.
- Motor voltage depends on the Star (Y) or Delta (Δ) connection.
- Star (Y) Connection
- One end of each of the three windings is connected together.
- Commonly used for motor starting to reduce starting current.
- Delta (Δ) Connection
- The three windings are connected in a closed loop.
- The motor must be operated according to its rated/nameplate voltage.
