Components of a Photovoltaic (PV) System
A Photovoltaic (PV) system is a system that converts sunlight directly into electrical energy using solar panels.
Main Components of a PV System
1. Solar PV Panel
Converts sunlight into DC (Direct Current) electricity.
2. Charge Controller
Regulates the charging of the battery and helps prevent overcharging.
3. Solar Inverter
Converts DC electricity into AC (Alternating Current) electricity for household appliances.
4. Battery
Stores electrical energy for use at night or during power cuts. It is optional in many grid-connected systems.
5. Mounting Structure
Supports the solar panels at the required angle and direction.
6. Cables and Protection Devices
Carry electricity and provide protection against faults, overcurrent, and electrical surges.
7. Meter (Grid-connected system)
Measures electricity imported from and exported to the electricity grid.

Short Answer for an Exam
The main components of a photovoltaic system are:
- Solar PV panel
- Charge controller
- Inverter
- Battery
- Mounting structure
- Cables and protection devices
- Energy meter
Note: The battery and charge controller are not required as separate components in every PV system. Their use depends on the system design.
