A solar dryer is a simple machine that uses heat from the sun to remove moisture from food and other materials. It helps dry products faster and more hygienically than traditional open-air drying.

First, the solar collector absorbs sunlight and converts it into heat. Air inside the collector becomes warm. This hot air then moves into the drying chamber where the food or material is placed on trays.

The warm air passes around the food and absorbs its moisture. As the moisture is removed, the food gradually becomes dry. The moist air then moves out through the vent or outlet provided at the top of the dryer. This continuous movement of hot and moist air helps the drying process.

The temperature inside the dryer is higher than the outside temperature because the solar energy is trapped inside the dryer. Depending on the design, a fan may also be used to improve air circulation.

Solar dryers can be used for drying fruits, vegetables, grains, spices, herbs, chilies, and other agricultural products. The main advantage is that drying takes place in a cleaner and more controlled environment, protecting the products from dust, insects, and rain.
