How to check solar panel voltage
1. Put the panel in sunlight
Place the panel where it receives sunlight.
2. Set the multimeter
- Turn the multimeter to DC voltage — usually marked V⎓.
- If it has manual ranges, choose a range higher than the panel’s expected voltage.
- For example, for a panel around 40 V, use the 200 V DC range if available.
3. Connect the probes
- 🔴 Red probe → Solar panel + (positive)
- ⚫ Black probe → Solar panel − (negative)
The display will show the voltage.
