Solar Panel Structure and Design
Today I learned about the solar panel structure and its design. A solar panel structure is a supporting frame used to install solar panels safely on a roof, building, ground, or other suitable location. The main purpose of the structure is to hold the panels firmly and keep them at the correct angle for receiving sunlight.
The structure is generally made using MS angle, GI sections, aluminium, or galvanized steel. For rooftop solar installations, the structure is fixed to the roof using suitable base plates, bolts, and fasteners. The structure should be strong enough to handle the weight of the solar panels and normal wind loads.
Before designing the structure, proper measurement is very important. We need to measure the available roof area, panel length and width, number of panels, row spacing, and required height. The direction and tilt angle of the panels should also be considered so that the panels receive good sunlight throughout the day.
A typical solar panel structure consists of vertical supports, horizontal rails, cross members, base plates, clamps, nuts and bolts. Solar panels are placed on the rails and secured using suitable clamps. Proper spacing between panels helps with installation, maintenance, ventilation, and cleaning.
While making the design, we should also consider water drainage, roof strength, wind resistance, corrosion protection, and maintenance access. Galvanizing or suitable protective coating can help protect the metal structure from rust.
A good solar panel structure should be strong, stable, properly measured, and easy to maintain. Correct design and installation are important for the long-term performance and safety of a solar power system. This topic helped me understand how electrical knowledge and fabrication skills are connected in solar installation work.
