Today, I learned some basic and important concepts about electrical systems. The main topics I studied were single-phase and three-phase electrical supplies.
I learned that a typical single-phase supply is around 230 V. I also learned about three-phase supply and initially wondered why three-phase voltage is not simply 690 V (230 × 3). I understood that the three phases are separated by 120°, so the voltage between phases is calculated differently. In a typical system, the line-to-line voltage is about 400 V, not 690 V.
After that, I studied industrial electrical wiring and cables. I learned that different types and sizes of cables are selected according to the voltage, current, load, and application. I also observed the use of important protection and control devices such as MCBs, fuses, and relays.
