What it is: It is a water leveler made of glass or plastic transparent tubes and a scale (marking).
“Where used:”
In agriculture/farms: For checking slopes, leveling fields, and maintaining the slope of irrigation channels.
Construction (Masonry): To measure the height of walls, beams, flooring and plinth level at two different points.
“of using:”
1.The tube is filled with water.
2.Due to the natural law of equilibrium of liquids, the water level at both ends of the tube always remains at the same height.
3.By placing both the long scales at different places and looking at the water level (marking), it is found out whether both the places are at exactly the same height or not.
2.A-Frame Level
What it is: It is an A-shaped wooden frame with a heavy stone or plumb bob suspended from its apex by a thread.
Where it is used:
1.Agriculture: For contour bunding in hilly or sloping areas, making embankments, stopping water flow and drawing level lines for water harvesting.
2.In measuring the slope of the land: This is an accurate traditional indigenous instrument to tell the level of the land without any electronic machine.
“of using:”
3.First of all, by placing it on a level surface, the position of the thread is marked on the middle bar (crossbar).
4.When the A-line is placed on the ground, if the hanging plumb line/stone falls exactly on the center marking, it means that the ground is perfectly level.
5.If the thread bends to the left or right, it indicates the direction and angle of the slope of the ground.
